A Diamond in the Rough

Indeed, bodybuilding has been good to the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native. It can also be said that the 39 year old (she looks 27!) mother of three has been an outstanding ambassador for the sport of women's bodybuilding as well. At 5'6" and 145 lbs. of gleaming muscularity Linda provides breathing testament to the promised immortality of the composite athlete. Exuding confidence in her every move, she is spurred by the pride in her soul and the rowel that propels derived of the highest order of all... truth. Her manner suggests that she can take whatever comes her way within her lithesome strides. Linda has established herself as a "breed-apart" with both her winning attitude and her outstanding physical presence.

Her physique has been described in many ways: "ripped", "shredded", and "cut" are three prevalent accolades. But there is much more to the finely sculpted Cvik body than merely being "cut". Linda's hard-work ethic has provided her with eye-catching shoulder-to-waist and lat-to-waist ratios, both augmented by a superbly constructed back, rippled quadriceps, well-rounded hamstrings and fully loaded biceps and triceps; all powerfully set off with artistically-carved abdominals! The Aubin-Cvik structure can be described as nothing less than statuesque! (The pictures don't lie).

Linda's physical presence however, may represent only the "tip of the iceberg" of what she has brought to women's bodybuilding. In a sport that is often thought of as being populated by one dimensional players, the Canadian champion emerges as a rare gem, one of vast dimension with a widely encompassing spectrum of attributes. A veritable "diamond-in-the-rough", Linda enjoys a multi-faceted career adding her full-time duties as a sales representative and spokesperson for a supplement company to her jam-packed agenda. Linda also eF|ûzC6õ#Hzñw(yæbhyò#8yöa1sç#xð# uàjàjes that range from interior decorating to kickboxing. (Hey, I really do like that shade of lime for the living room after all!).

Linda has seen her career evolve from those first hesitant steps to a linear ascent to her country's highest podium. Her early progression could be marked as "steady" from its inception in 1983 where she took 4th at the Alberta Provincial Bodybuilding Championships, through a string of 7 trophy-winning placements throughout western Canada, Linda's career has now skyrocketed!

"So, How does it feel to be the Canadian champion?" I ask. "I really can't believe it," Linda confesses. "I was shocked at the contest. I didn't hear them call my name and when I was told I had won, I couldn't believe it! I'm just starting to believe it now."

Nineteen years of competitive bodybuilding can be expected to take their toll on any athlete. In Linda's case, it apparently has done nothing to erode her spirit. In fact, she appears to be even more motivated than ever. Her intense (5:00 am and 7:00 PM) workouts speak loudly of her zeal to add even more "polish" to her honed physique. "I love to get up early and hit the gym," says the tireless champ. "After an early workout and I am set for work. Then I just finish off my training day with an all-out spin class."

While Linda has been riding the crest of her wave of success, she is not content to "stand pat". "I cannot be satisfied with what I have accomplished. I must strive to move forward," she says. With her philosophy solidly in place, Linda has set her goals high. Linda is working on her "bigger, harder, stronger" physique to show the judges and is training twice a day under a new regime to give her an "even more imposing look". She chuckles at the thought and raises her eyebrows as if to say "can you believe that?"

If hard work will provide the required weaponry, then Linda is on the right track. However, it should be acknowledged that Linda's accomplishments have not been realized without a huge measure of intelligence as well. "I love to learn," she says. "That's the only way I can expect to grow in this sport". Linda is certified in advanced studies in the scientific principles of weight-resistance training and serves as a course instructor for C.O.R.F.I.T.. "I love teaching," she says. Linda's spirit is infectious and she has everyone within earshot ready to sign up!

Linda goes on to explain her drive to learn all that she can about her chosen sport. "Weight training is not just a matter of brawn; the brain plays a major role as well. I am constantly trying to improve my physique, and the more I understand about physiology and biomechanics, the better I can become. It's as simple as that. Also one of the areas I am constantly trying to improve upon is my ability to group my exercises properly. As a bodybuilder, I am always trying to achieve maximum intensity while avoiding the tendency to overtrain. I'm always striving to find the perfect routine." She chuckles, "It's coming," she promises. "I believe my routines are beginning to fall into place." Yep... just like her career.
