You are on: Home

Welcome to C.O.R.F.I.T.

North America and Europe’s Elite-Level Personal Trainer Certification School

How To Choose The Right Personal Trainer Certification Course

You have decided that you want to become a personal trainer. You have also recognized the requirement of embarking upon academic study in an effort to become certified. You are to be congratulated on your sense of responsibility in pursuing your goal in the proper fashion. The problem you now face of course is, how to approach the task of selecting the right school. Choosing the right certification course is not an easy assignment; in fact it can be very confusing to someone starting out on a new career. There are so many schools and all of them [of course] claim that they are the best. How then can you be expected to make the right decision?

You no doubt have been told to "do your homework" in scrutinizing all of the schools before making your final choice. That would seem like an obvious approach to take. What is not so apparent however is the fact that it is difficult to apply a criterion of assessment that would provide the crucial information as to what road you should take. In other words, how does one properly conduct a comparative study of the courses being offered?

You do not want to waste your time, and your money on a course that will not provide you with what you will need in your chosen profession. Even more vitally, you do not want to misplace your trust! People will be depending upon you to provide them with accurate information. You will be required to provide your clientele with safe, efficient programs of instruction. Your ability to do so will depend directly upon the education that you have received.

In the following pages evidence will be provided as to why we feel so strongly about the recognized benefits of the C.O.R.F.I.T. program and why we believe you will as well! It should be noted from the outset that we will not be offering a comparative study of the various certification courses. We do not feel it would be appropriate to comment on what courses are offering what specific instruction at what level of expertise. Instead, we will focus on what we do at C.O.R.F.I.T.

The report is provided to allow for the prospective personal training student to make a knowledgeable choice. If you take the time to read through this page in its entirety, we believe that the choice you should make will become more and more obvious. It should be noted that this report is not intended to merely "hype" the C.O.R.F.I.T. certification school, rather, it is presented in effort to provide a deep probing of what we believe should be offered in a personal training school. This is done in an effort to assist the prospective students in making an "aware" choice.

A key point that should be made immediately is that your Personal Trainer Certification School spending should be applied as an investment ... not as a mere expenditure!

Dare To Compare: Study With The Most Respected To Become The Most Respected

The Continental Organization of Registered Fitness Instructors and Trainers (C.O.R.F.I.T.) represents the vanguard school of instruction in the entire personal trainer certification industry! This statement represents a strong claim of self-importance we acknowledge; however, we do not expect you to take our word for it. We invite you to compare our program with others. A quick note to consider is that C.O.R.F.I.T. provides the best RETURN-ON-INVESTMENT when compared to other certification programs. How is this the case? Read on!

The reason the two above claims are made is based on the fact that due to exhaustive study of what constitutes the "ideal" personal trainer course curriculum, C.O.R.F.I.T. has been able to create the absolute best possible criteria, thus firmly establishing its "cut-above' reputation! It has been acknowledged that the C.O.R.F.I.T. curriculum includes every one of the considered "crucial" areas of study that would properly prepare the aspiring personal trainer for his/her role as a professional in the fitness field.

It is widely-acknowledged by the recognized leaders in the field of personal training certification, that the C.O.R.F.I.T. program provides a sound, well-designed course of instruction in both the theoretical and practical domains of weight-resistance training. The C.O.R.F.I.T. program is constructed so as to provide an intensive training program for those students wishing to pursue a career as either a "one-on-one" personal trainer or group weight-training instructor. In addition, it is suggested that many avenues of thought can be followed with regard to building your own empire. Remember, at C.O.R.F.I.T. the sky is the limit!

The course will feature a deeply-rooted academic base, but will also focus on the human aspects of teacher/student communication. The C.O.R.F.I.T. administration stands strongly behind its contention that those students wishing to establish a successful personal training career will be best equipped to take on the task with a C.O.R.F.I.T. education! C.O.R.F.I.T. graduates carry with them the most highlyaccredited certification in the fiercely-competitive personal training industry.

Knowledge Is Power... Being Able To Impart That Knowledge In Others Represents Absolute Strength

It is important to establish a framework of operation in order to provide a solid game plan with which to select the personal training certification school that would offer the graduating professionals their best preparation, the plethora of considerations can be broken down into two main classifications:

  • Course Content
    • How in-depth, and how appropriate is the curriculum?
    • How accurate is the science that is being presented?
  • Level Of Instruction
    • What is the level of expertise of the course instructors?
    • How well do the instructors convey the information?

Let us now examine how to assess the level of quality of each of the above global considerations.

Note: We will restate the point that we cannot [in fair conscience] offer specific comment on how the other schools have designed their courses or the level of their presentation. We can, however, outline in detail how C.O.R.F.I.T. has risen to the head of the class with its state-of-the art curriculum that has clearly established its "cut-above" reputation.

C.O.R.F.I.T. Not Just A Certification ... But A Lifetime Education

Why You Should Choose The Continental Organization Of Registered Fitness Instructors And Teachers? In order to present why you should select C.O.R.F.I.T. as your school of choice in becoming a certified personal trainer, we shall allude to the two keystone considerations of appraisal outlined in our introduction.

  • C.O.R.F.I.T. offers the most comprehensive and the most succinct curriculum leading to personal trainer certification in the entire industry!
  • C.O.R.F.I.T. also offers the most elite-level "hands-on" training in the business. These are not idle claims, nor are they mere catch-phrase applications.

These are two statements-of-fact that C.O.R.F.I.T. has provided for its students throughout its history!

Complete Program Of Instruction

The C.O.R.F.I.T. curriculum has been designed to provide an in-depth education in THE FOUR CRUCIAL AREAS that comprise a thorough, well-rounded course of study leading to personal trainer certification. It should be noted that each of these crucial areas of instruction are presented with the support of an in-depth course text-book, all written by C.O.R.F.I.T. founder Glen D. Cunningham. The titles of the course texts will provide the information as to the suggested areas of study that are recommended by C.O.R.F.I.T. A brief synopsis of the content and reason for inclusion will be provided at the end of the list:

  • Advanced Scientific Principles of Aerobic and Anaerobic Training
  • Advanced Techniques in Weight-Resistance Training
  • Performance Nutrition: Proper Eating for Proper Results

Brief Outline Of Course Texts

Scientific Principles Of Aerobic And Anaerobic Training

It is imperative that a solid foundation of instruction in the vital considerations of science as related to weight resistance training be. provided in order to offer the students the baseline operative with which to approach their personal training applications. These scientific principles have been pruned from a vast vault of information and are presented in effort to acquaint the student with the fundamental principles related to safe, efficient training. Note: These scientific principles are also presented in a DVD Seminar Series in addition to the extensive course text book!

It is the position of C.O.R.F.I.T. that to present a personal trainer's certification without first addressing the crucial aspects related to the science of weight-resistance training would be more than remiss; it would be potentially dangerous! At the very least it would leave the student ill prepared to work in the field. It should be noted that the C.O.R.F.I.T. scientific principles text is regarded as one of the most comprehensive texts on the subject of the science of weight training. It s also highly-regarded as being adjudged as "most appropriate" for those students wishing to become most proficient in the field of personal training.

Performance Nutrition: Proper Eating For Proper Results

It is the strong belief of C.O.R.F.I.T. that no personal trainer certification can be considered complete or in fact "valid" without a strong base of information on the crucial; nutrition component; The course text was written in collaboration with bodybuilding legend Mike "The Zipper" Sable, and offers an in-depth analysis of the importance of eating the right foods at precisely the right time! The Performance Nutrition text is based on the principles of Ergo-Physiology [roughly translated; meaning eating for action] is considered the most easily understood and concisely presented texts in the entire sports nutrition, publishing industry!

Indeed, the Performance Nutrition course text has effectively removed the arguments and eradicated the confusion that has plagued the sports nutrition industry from its inception. "Performance Nutrition" provides a framework of operation that has proven successful to thousands of men and women of all ages, backgrounds and goals! Note; the doctrines associated with ergo-physiology represent the cornerstone principles of scientific nutritional guidance that the expert personal trainer can rely upon to power his/her clients to success!

Advanced Techniques In Weight-Resistance Training

C.O.R.F.I.T. offers top-rated textbook coupled with elite-level instruction in movement methodology

If the opening introduction to the C.O.R.F.I.T. curriculum was confidence-building, then the information about the practical component of the course will be even more awe-inspiring. After all, it is one thing to talk a "good game" but how do we stack up when it comes down to the "real deal"? Talk aside, can we take our game to the next level? You bet we can!

Once again, the teaching application is supported with a solid, well-documented text that can be relied upon by the C.O.R.F.I.T. students. It has been acknowledged that the "Advanced Techniques" test book represents the most comprehensive (there is that word again!) work on the subject of "practical" application of weight-training movement methodology available! Note: A review of the textbook "Advanced Techniques" (fomerly entitled "Advanced Bodybuilding") was conducted by IronMan magazine. Editor Steve Holman provided the report presented below. It should be noted that IronMan magazine has long been established as the leading bodybuilding publication in the world and is, in fact labeled, "The Bible of Bodybuilding Magazines". Attention personal trainers. There is a new book out there that you should add to your collection! ADVANCED BODYBUILDING: The Ultimate Weight-Training Book by: Glen D. Cunningham is packed full of exercise analysis, techniques, tips, and photos. Cunningham helped Mike Sable ("Mr. America" ,"Mr. World", "Mr. Pro Universe") train for competition, and has advised many other athletes in the sport. The reference is 615 pages and contains almost even exercise known to incur!

Practical Instruction Basic Necessity Of Any Well-Intended Certification School

It [perhaps) would seem obvious that no personal trainer certification program should be considered [in any way] "complete" without the inclusion of a sound, scientifically based practicum. C.O.R.F.I.T. not only provides a practical component for its students, but offers the very best that can be found!

It should be swiftly noted that there is a silent killer of the industry lurking in our midst; those certified personal trainers who neglect to inform their unsuspecting clients that they have not received any practical instruction in the proper methodology of weight-resistance training. As importantly, and perhaps even more is the fact that these trainers do not know how to sport the clients. Spot them. They do not even know how to hand someone a weight properly! It has happened that a trainer unskilled in exchanging the bar with a client has let go when the client attempted to grasp, the bar at precisely the same hand position that the trainer was holding the bar. The trainer let go of the bar to allow room for the trainee to place her hands on the bar. However, the trainee did not have a secure grip and the weight cam down with the horrible result that the model had her front teeth smashed out! There are a plethora of potential problems [the list of which is far too long to document here] that can surface as a result of an ill-advised or misled trainer's instructions. What should not be overlooked is the fact that people come to a personal for help and they are placing trust in that trainer to guide them through safe, effective training in effort to improve their fitness levels. Obviously, being void of a sound scientific education in movement methodology represents not only an oversight on the trainer's part but, in fact, provides an example of deception that has no place in the personal training industry!

People deserve to be provided with the utmost of safe, efficient training applications on the part of the trainer. Not only are they not getting what they are expecting to, but they are, in fact, being placed in deep jeopardy of incurring serious [sometimes life-threatening] injury! How can anyone in the personal trainer's certification business justify such a circumstance of idiocy?

Driving Instructors Who Have Never Been Behind The Wheel and Pilots Who Have Never Seen The Inside Of The Cockpit

It can and should be noted that many potential fitness clients are savvy to the premise that their trainer should be certified. What they do not think to ask when they inquire about the trainer's personal training credentials in the succinct point of whether or not that trainer has had any practical training. It can be presumed that the reason the unsuspecting public does not think to ask about the practical part of the training expertise their trainer has [or doesn't have].

The public assumption is that no trainer would walk around carrying credentials of "certification" without ever had any exposure to the potentially most dangerous aspect of weight-resistance training! While one could certainly drag out the old refrain "Never Assume." It can also be argued that trainers who do not inform their clients that they have no experience in actual "hands-on" training represents nothing less than fraudulent behavior!

Personal Trainers who are working in the field without having undertaken an authorized course of study in biomechanical analysis under the supervision of truly qualified teaching instructors represent nothing less than "ticking time bombs". Their careers [and their entire lives] could easily "blow up in their faces". Unfortunately, it is the people who have placed their trust in these sly souls that will suffer the [often dire] consequences! It is time to weed out these dubious "certified" trainers and provide them with an opportunity to become truly certified. Only when this happens will the personal training business be able to substantiate its presence in the fitness industry. Until then we all suffer the drawbacks of having OUR REPUTATIONS AT RISK EVERY TIME ONE OF THESE IMPOSTERS TAKES TO THE GYM FLOOR!

Could we ever imagine taking a driver's education course without ever being asked to get behind the wheel.... and then being hired as a driving instructor? How about operating a flying school; would you feel comfortable graduating a class of "pilots" who had never been in the cockpit? How ridiculous is that thinking? Sending out "certified" trainers who have not received proper practical instruction should be considered equally absurd. Remember, you owe it to yourself and you owe it to your clients not to hide beneath false academic cloaking. Besides, who wants to work looking over his/her shoulder every day in fear of a "real" trainer arriving on the scene?

Everyone should feel good about what they do. How could you possibly feel good about yourself knowing that you are not truly qualified! At some point you will feel that you should turn yourself in... or at the very least enroll in a personal trainer's course that will properly prepare you for the challenging task ahead ... working with the people who have entrusted their physical and physiological well-being in you!

We Are Confident That You Will Choose C.O.R.F.I.T. For Your Personal Trainer Education!

Last But Definitely Not Least...

C.O.R.F.I.T. is not through just yet! In extending its "signature" "attention-to-detail" reputation, The Continental Organization of Registered Fitness Instructors and Trainers has provided the most thorough analysis of one of the most important, but [alas] most overlooked aspects of weight resistance training; PROGRAM DESIGN!

That's right! One of the biggest weaknesses in the entire spectrum of weight training components by personal trainer certification schools and, not surprisingly the graduates of the many programs, [and other would-be "personal trainers" that abound] is the lack of attention paid --one might obvious presume stems from a distinct lack of knowledge- to this all-important aspect of training! Just because you have learned how to perform all of the exercises doesn't mean that you can automatically provide a proficient program design for your clients!

Program design remains one of the most vaguely-applied, yet most debated areas of training. Determining how many reps, of how many sets, of how many, [of exactly what] exercises, in combination with what other exercises, included in what groupings, performed on what days of the week, emerges as the proverbial "quandary wrapped within an enigma" stigma that has plagued weight-training athletes from the inception of the sport! Clearly, this is one area where the conversations never stop yet the information is rarely, [if ever] harvested.

C.O.R.F.I.T. Provides Cutting-Edge Clarity

Once again C.O.R.F.I.T. has come forward with "cutting edge" clarity with its EXTENSIVE PROGRAM DESIGN PORTFOLIO! We believe that the ability to provide accurately-designed programs is what separates the elite-level fitness professional from the "also-rans". There is much more to designing a program for someone that merely grouping a bunch of exercise together in a "that should cover it" line of thinking. That is precisely what happens doesn't it; list a vast number of exercises, fire in a vague configuration of sets and reps to be performed in a random frequency schematic, and you have pretty well "filled the bill" for what has become the accepted wisdom of program design. And no, this is not the general application of just the lower rungs of the personal training profession but is most often the practice and policy of some [many] of those who are considered to be the upper echelon of the personal trainer's community!

C.O.R.F.I.T. Known For Its Expert Program Design

Once again, C.O.R.F.I.T. has distanced itself from the competition with its superlative indepth program design portfolio! C.O.R.F.I.T. has, in fact, provided for two distinct published works on the subject of program design. The first reference to this crucial element of the. personal trainer's list of weapons is found in the special section devoted to the importance of appropriate program design presented following the Advanced Training Applications in the Advanced Bodybuilding text book. The section on advanced training applications. is also utilized to provide for advanced programming for those elite-level athletes who are seeking to advance to the next level. [At C.O.R.F.I.T. we don't believe in just training those just starting out. C.O.R.F.I.T. GRADUATES ARE TRAINED TO WORK WITH IVORY AND GRANITE AND MAKE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE HEALTH AND FITNESS LEVELS OF THESE ELITE-LEVEL CLIENTS! In order to effectively make long-lasting changes in the physiques and fitness levels of the elite athletes of the world, the trainer must be wellschooled in program design; it's really that simple!

At C.O.R.F.I.T. You Are Educated To Work With The Best In The World

In fact, one of the biggest advantages of studying under the C.O.R.F.I.T. school is that we prepare you to work with the best in the world.
